Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 15, 2026

The short version: your family's inventory, claims, and funeral wishes are stored in a file on your own Google Drive or iCloud — we never see or store that content. What we do collect is limited to what's needed to sell you an activation code and help you if something goes wrong: your email, your purchase record, and a random archive ID. No ads, no analytics trackers, no selling of data.

1. What we collect

Purchase information

When you buy Death Dibs, payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles that directly. We do receive and store your email address and purchase details (amount, date) so we can email you an activation code and look up your purchase later if you need help.

Activation & license data

When you redeem your activation code in the app, our licensing server records: the code's activation status, a randomly generated Archive ID for your family's data file (not derived from any personal information), the timestamp, and the requesting device's IP address and user-agent string. This is used only to enforce the reinstall/reactivation policy described in our EULA and to help with support requests like "I lost my code" or "my hard drive died." The archive itself — your actual inventory, claims, and plans — is never transmitted to us; only this small activation record is.

Contact form & email communications

Our contact form and share-your-story form are handled by Web3Forms, a third-party form processing service — submissions are emailed to us and also retained in Web3Forms' own dashboard so we can look them up later — see web3forms.com for how they handle it on their end. If you contact us this way or by email directly, we keep that correspondence to resolve your request and for our own records.

Website

This website does not use cookies, analytics scripts, or ad trackers. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, which may log your IP address as part of serving the font files — see Google's Privacy Policy.

2. What we don't collect

  • The contents of your family archive (items, photos, claims, funeral plans, obituary drafts) — that file never touches our servers;
  • Your Google Drive or iCloud login credentials — Death Dibs never asks for them; it uses the folder your OS already has access to;
  • Precise location, contacts, or other device data beyond what's needed for the app to function.

3. Who we share data with

  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • Google (Gmail) — we send activation-code and support emails via a Gmail-hosted mail account.
  • Web3Forms — processes submissions from our contact and share-your-story forms.

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with advertisers or data brokers.

4. Data retention

We keep purchase and activation records indefinitely, since Death Dibs has no accounts and this record is the only way to help you recover a lost activation code in the future (see our Help page). You can ask us to delete your purchase record by contacting us, though note this may prevent us from helping you recover a lost code later.

5. Children's privacy

Death Dibs is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

6. Your choices

Since your archive data lives in your own cloud storage, you control it entirely — delete the file, revoke sharing access, or stop syncing it at any time, independent of us. For anything we do hold (your email and purchase record), contact us with questions or deletion requests.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time; the "Last updated" date above will reflect the most recent change.
